This is a printout of all experience obtained on all aircraft types as of the date of printing, and a grand total of all flying hours. The only point of significance that needs to be mentioned here is that no addition of aircraft totals takes place. Only each aircraft type totals, and your current grand totals are printed. If the sum of all aircraft types does not equal the grand total, then either you have further experience on other types which you have not yet entered, or your aircraft grand totals were entered incorrectly at Setup.@Table1Title dNotes:d*Sort Orderd@OOOOOOlHThis section gives a quick overview of how the program works. Before you first run "SMARTLOG", it needs to be initialised or set up with your hours as they exist at the time of starting on this system. *1 SETUP This only needs to be done once, - the very first time you start the program. Once "SMARTLOG" has been setup you are ready for day to day recording of flight data.*1 DETAILS Just before your flight, you would normally enter the Flight Details [Ctrl+D] (Captain, Crew,A/C Type, Registration etc), Enter, and "Smartlog" exits and switches off.*2 STARTUP At airircraft start-up time, you switch your Psion on, touch the Extras bar, SmartLog, Start-Up [Ctrl+S] to tell "SMARTLOG" to record the time of start-up and the date. The computer has it's own internal clock which it uses to insert the current data, however you can, if you wish, override and insert any date or time. Enter and "SMARTLOG" exits again. Switch off to await for shutdown (final chock-time at the end of the flight).A feature of "SMARTLOG" is that you do not have to enter the flight details before the start-up time (as described here). That is left to you to do in any order you wish.*4 SHUTDOWN At the end of the flight start up "SMARTLOG", to instruct it to record the shutdown time. It then automatically deducts start-time from shut-down time (rounds it to the nearest 5 minutes) and displays the flight duration. Here you are given the opportunity to enter any night flying or instrument time that might have taken place during the flight, as well any co-pilot/instruction, or you may also modify the flight details here (i.e. You might add "Cat 1 ILS Rwy 23" or "Diverted to PLZ" etc.)Once you have run the program, you will see how simply and intuitivly it all works. That is all there is to the recording of your hours.TIP: For those who want to capture hours. After SETUP change to the directory wher you are saving your hours. i.e CorD:\LocdataHighlight the any of the Files with the "SmartLog" Logo and Enter."SmartLog" will start.Enter your Data, and each time "SmartLog" closes the highlight will be on this file.Just Enter to reopen "SmartLog".AO !! "Arial$ O >r!! "Arial$!! "Arial$q!! "Arial$ F"File..xxxxPrint..>Summary" is also run from within "Logutils". Initially the two dates defining the summary limits will be requested as in the "Print Logbook" selection. Again, these dates are inclusive.Next, you will be shown the size of the upcoming summary and the line on which the printing will start. The size is the exact number of lines of the upcoming printing on the page. If there is more than one aircraft type flown during the period being summarised, then obviously the amount of space used on the printed page will be greater. The purpose of supplying you with this information before any printing starts, is so that you can decide whether the summary printout will fit onto the space left at the bottom of the Logbook printout or not. If not, then you will have to devote a totally fresh page to the summary alone. You are also shown the exact line on which the printing of the summary will begin. This is calculated by deducting the size of the impending summary from 60 (the max page length). If you want the summary printing to print higher up the page, then simply put a smaller figure in against ``Print Will Begin At Line''The next request shown on the screen will be the "Left, Right or Both" pages request, - just as in the printing of the Logbook. Finally, all you need to know about printing a summary, is that only a maximum of ten aircraft types can be accommodated on one A4 size page. If you do happen to have flown more aircraft types than that for a particular summary period, then simply split the period into smaller intervals.[AO !! "Arial$O !! "Arial$r !! "Arial$U?@@ @6 c|GREAD THE ENTIREPAGEYour logbook can be printed out in entirety, - in almost identical format to the Standard Pilot's logbook. Furthermore, a complete and comprehensive summary of all hours can be printed for any period desired, as well as a complete summary of all your flying experience to date.Although "Print Logbook" & "Print Summary" are totally independent of each other, one would normally run the "Print Summary" program so that it prints the summary on the same page as the logbook printout. However this is entirely optional. The complete printout spans across two pages on your printer. First all the left-hand pages are printed out, and then all the right-hand pages. It is extremely important that you position each page in the printer as accurately as possible, so that each entry lines up with the corresponding line on the opposite page."Print Logbook" is run from within "Logutils". You will immediately be asked which two dates you wish to print between. These are obviously the start and end dates of the period you require printed. They are both inclusive. You will be asked if you only wish to print either the left-hand page (All the flight Details etc.), or the right-hand page (The logged hours/columns), or both. Choose your preference - usually both. After this you are offered the option to specify how many lines you want printed on each specific page. The minimum is 10, and the maximum is 60. That can be edited to anything between 10 and 60. This is offering you the option of specifying the printed page length. Note that this is just setting the maximum length of each page, and is not showing you how many lines the printout will actually be printing. During the printing, a line count will print on the space that will be covered by the page binding. This is to give you a reference upon which to base your decision whether to print the summary on that page or not.BO !! "Arial$!! "Arial$!! "Arial$ "ArialO }%5Rd<%9!! "Arial$!! "Arial$!! "Arial$!! Mistakes here will confuse you unnecessarily. Print this out if you want to refer to it.1.) The programs will be loaded into your Systems folder. (These folders are normally hidden to prevent accidental deletion)2.) Make sure that the local time and date is set correctly on your Series 5. It is preferable to have the time format on the 24 hour format instead of am/pm.System, Control panel,International:Time :: Digital & 24 HourDate :: Format Day MonthYear3.) Before you go any further, make sure that your existing logbook is available, and up to date. (Up to the date from which you will be continuing with "SmartLog".) Once you enter the "Setup" program you will be asked for your total hours for each column of your logbook. A check is made to see if your columns cross-balance with the grand total, and if not, then the hours are rejected. If you are beginning this "SmartLog" from the very beginning of your flying career, then you just enter 0 (zero) for each column, and Esc to Quit when asked for the Aircraft Type4.) With your Series 5 switched on and the Extra menu displayed touch the "Logutils" icon. You will be presented with the "Logutils" menu.Choose the "Setup" option under the "Tools" heading. At first you will be asked to enter "The Time Correction Factor". This is the amount (in minutes) by which you want your Series 5 clock time adjusted for every logbook entry. For example if you want your logbook to be recorded in UTC (GMT) and your Series 5 is set to ZULUlocal time then enter -120 (don't forget the minus sign). However if you want your logbook to be in local time then just make sure that 0 (zero)is set here.On the "Save All Hours In" line, select the drive ("D: if you have a Flash Card).5.) Next you will be prompted for all your flying hours (column totals and grand total). Remember that all times in this program are entered in hours and minutes, and not hours and decimals of hours (thus 10 hours and 30 minutes is entered as 10.30 and not 10.5). Also please be careful not to press the "Enter" key after each column total has been set, but to press the down arrow to move onto the next line. When the dialogue box is fully set with all the totals asked for, only then press the "Enter" key. Do the same for the next dialogue box until all your column totals and grand total have been entered. If your column totals do not balance with your grand totals the program will reject them and give you the opportunity to enter them again.6.) After this you will be asked to enter (one at a time) your aircraft types that you have flown. This is optional. If you wish, you may enter your most often flown aircraft type, plus a few other frequently flown aircraft. However, if you would like "Smartlog" to produce a "Career Summary" for you (which is a summary of all your flying experience) then you should enter all your aircraft types. With each type you will be asked if it is single or multi engined, (for the Civil Logbook) and then for the relevant type column totals. Again be careful to use the down arrow to move from line to line and not the "Enter" key until all has been set in that particular dialogue box. When entering aircraft type names, you may enter any description using up to a maximum of 6 characters. A combination of alphabetic and numeric characters is permitted as long as the description begins with an alphabetic character. Spaces and other non alphabetic characters are not allowed (i.e. "-,*,/,_,(,) etc).Scrapping Setup & Restarting. If you make a hash-up and wish to delete everything, in order to begin again, then from the system screen use the menu option "Remove directory" to remove the directory called C:\Logdata or C:\Locdata on the internal disk. PLUS delete the file Smtlg, ini in C:\System\Apps\Logutils orC:\System\Apps\LocutilsThis will reset everything and allow you to start again.AWhen you select this you are initially prompted for the aircraft type that you are seeking to inspect and the date required. Both are self explanatory. This is offering you the option of looking at your total hours on that aircraft type up to, and including a certain date. The date that is presented to you by the computer at the top of the screen, is the last time that you flew that aircraft up to the date that you have entered.@rial"Times New RomanQqYMBSelect this whenever you would like to inspect any particular entry in your logbook. At first you will be asked:-Which Entry do You Wish to See?First Last Specific date."First" will find the very first entry in your logbook, "Last" the last, and "Specific Date" any entry between the two (If there is no entry on the particular date that you specify, then the program will find the very next entry after that date). Once a choice has been made, the data is presented one Log Entry per screenfull . You can move one entry forward by pressing the right arrow, or one entry back by pressing the left arrow. Terminate at any stage by pressing the "ON/ESC" button.W@iTable1 ColA1 ColB1ColA3ColB3ColA4 Index1ColA4. d\c efdŔ.Ab"Arial"Times New RomanQqYMGThis program allows you to access and manipulate your logbook, and consists of the following:- "View...Logbook Entry" a feature to enable you to see any entry in your Logbook. "View... Type Hours"displays total flying hours on any particular aircraft type, up to and including any particular date. "View...Hrs for Period" displays hours flown for any particular period i.e. between any two dates, or any particular day. "View...List A/C Types" displays a list of all aircraft types flown. "Edit...Delete Last Entry" If you make a mistake whilst making a recording, and actually enter that mistake (or if you record a start-up time, (and/or flight details) and then do not actually carry out the flight), there is a program that will delete that entry and allow you to start again. "Edit...Edit Previous Details". A limited amount of editing of the flight details is also possible with "Edit...Delete A/C Type'' If whilst initialising your Logbook you enter erroneous data for a particular Aircraft Type, you can delete that Type. "Tools...Compact Hours" If your logbook entries start to slow down a Compact Files program will compress your Data files. "File...Print xxx" the really important facility to print your logbook is also provided via Parallel cable to a Printer or Serial to PSIWIN. PLEASE NOTE:"SMARTLOG" is designed as a self contained Logbook and uses the Psion Parrallel cable to print on "Epson" dot -matrix and "Hewlett Packard" LaserJet 3 and Deskjet types of printers. Most mainline printers will emulate these. "Print Summary" A complete and comprehensive summary of all your flying hours for any particular period (between any two dates), and for each and every aircraft type that you have flown for the period can also be printed. "Career Summary" you can produce a printout of all your flying experience, categorised by Aircraft Type and column totals. This is what is called a career summary.AO !! "Arial$O !! "Arial$!! This is offering you the option of looking at your total hours on that aircraft type up to, and including a certain date. The date that is presented to you by the computer at the top of the screen, is the last time that you flew that aircraft up to the date that you have entered.CThe most efficient way to run "SMARTLOG" is, as already mentioned, on the flight deck - although one is certainly not forced to do things this way. Therefore, at aircraft start-up time switch your Series 5 on and if nothing has been entered before for this particular flight, choose the "Start-Up" option from the "Where do You Wish to Begin" query. However, if the flight details have already been entered, then the computer will automatically go into the start-up routine. This offers you a date and a time.NOTE: The time presented will be UTC (GMT) if you have set the program up like that as explained in Setup, otherwise the time will be local time. If that is the correct date and time then just push "Enter" to record those. Otherwise modify them as you wish before entering.BWhen the flight is terminated, once again the computer is switched on and "SMARTLOG" run. That will present you with the END OF LOGBOOK ENTRY screen, positioned in the flight duration box.If any night flying took place then enter that amount against the "How Much Night?" line. That amount is automatically deducted from the day flying and logged in the appropriate column. The same applies to the "Instrument Flying" line. Obviously if no night flying or instrument flying took place, then simply ignore these lines. A further refinement is the line "Instrument Flying Was." Actual or Simulated? Just tap or press the left or right arrows to set whatever you require here. After pressing "Enter" everything for that particular flight is recorded and added up.nd Shut Down3 Capture this keeps SmartLog running allowing you to enter a number of flights i.e. Capture your Logbookj date and time then just push "Enter" to record those. Otherwise modify them as you wish before entering.K When you tap the "Details" button/ Ctrl+D key in SmartLog you are presented with a dialogue box to fill in. This is pretty straight forward. However, one or two points need explanation. If you are the Captain of the flight, then the word "Self" must go in as the Captain's name. The program looks for the letters Self against the Captain's name to know when to record the hours as Captain hours and not Co-Pilot. The letters S e l f can be in upper or lower case, or any combination of those, but nothing else must be in that space (including any "space" characters). The very first time that you enter an aircraft type that the computer does not recognise (i.e. an aircraft type that has not been inserted before), you will be presented with the query :- "XXX" NOT YET INITIALISED.Do You Want to Enter It? Respond with a "Y", and then you will have to enter your current totals for that aircraft type (Just as you did for the main column totals in the "INITILISE" program. - Bear in mind that these are type totals and not main totals.) Of course if this is the first time that you are flying this type of aircraft then just enter 0 (zero) for each column. The program is designed around the recording of multiple commuter flights. Therefore if one does a flight from, say Johannesburg to Durban then one should use the standard three letter codes for these towns i.e. JNB-DUR (The four letter ICAO codes could be used, but only the main airports have these). The next time you come to fly, the DUR- portion of the entry will already be in, waiting for the destination part of the entry. All one does then, is tap the FLIGHT TASK entry box or press the Ctrl + right arrow to get the cursor to the end of the entry and then type in ELS, or whatever other destination one is flying to. This feature helps to save time and key strokes, and also helps to keep you informed what your last flight was. Of course, if all one wants to enter is say, CIRCUITS & LANDINGS or such like, then just clear that (or just begin typing before the cursor has been set to the beginning of the entry) and enter whatever you like. If perhaps you enter a "duff" entry, then just go to the "Logutils" program and go to the "EDIT" list and run the "Delete Last Entry" option, then begin again. Just after entering the main details a query will come up asking for your "Crew Status". Which query depends upon whether the word Self was entered into the "Captains" line or not.Tap the left or right arrow or press either the left or right arrow key to set which ever is applicable to your flight. Enter to exit "SMARTLOG"TIP: For those who want to capture hours. After SETUP do your first entry with "Smartlog"Change to the directory wher you are saving your hours. i.e C:orD:\LocdataHighlight the any file with the "SmartLog Logo" and Enter."SmartLog" will start.Enter your Data, and each time "SmartLog" closes the highlight will be on on this file ready for you to enter.\CThis selection has been added for you to "Print" the logbook to a file that can be imported into a spreadsheet or any Desktop based logbook program that can import Comma Seperated Variable Files. There are 2 optionsLogbook to CSV to Print out between 2 dates. This will then include a balance of your hours brought forward and a Total row. The data will be printed into C:\Documents\SmtLog_Logbook,csv.Entire Logbook This option will export your entire Logbook into a CSV(Comma Seperated Variable) File. It will include the hours brought forward but no Total row.
